Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

I've been told my motherboard might hold me back when buying processors. Upgrading my motherboard is not something I really want to learn and hassle with right now. I recently got my GTX 970 and am wanting to play some good PC games. So I'm asking if people could give me suggestions on the best processors that I can buy with whatever limitations my motherboard may put on it.

Thank you

Solution
the am3+ am3 socket is no longer the main platform. newer cpu's on different sockets are incompatible with your setup.
I have an AM3 motherboard, as such I can only upgrade to chips that are no longer made/ ie older model
AM3+ is newer and there are right now 18 processors from newegg that will run on your board. only one for my board

so when compared to a newer socket like 1150 there are more choices of compatible CPU's (118) you are limited by the motherboard to a smaller set of options
