Upgrading PSU for GTX 660!

Lots of people said me that CM GX550w would not be enough for GTX 660 but as well am using it now and not satisfied with it cause my GTX 660 temps even go above 80c.So what i wanted to ask you guys that is GX750w is a good upgrade over GX550w?

The GX power supplies from cooler master are about online with the corsair tx series, and the xfx core series. I would go with corsair or xfx on this. I don't like the builders power supplies because they aren't seasonic based which means they use lower quality components but you could be just fine with a cx500 just not what I would do.

^ Completely incorrect. This list is not perfect but it's a good general guide. The Coolermaster GX is one step up from junk. The Corsair TX and XFX Core are both very high quality. Even the "budget" Corsair CX line is a huge step up from the Coolermaster.

Coolermaster models are known to have a hard time actually putting out their rated voltage. With a single GTX 660 you only need a recommended 430w power supply.

I would probably not trust that Coolermaster to be able to power that card even though it says it's powerful enough.

Don't buy Coolermaster or Thermaltake power supplies. Stick with Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Silverstone, Enermax, OCZ, Antec or Rosewill.

You're wrong about the quality of the Cooler Master GX power supplies, and your advice about Seasonic-made Corsair power supplies doesn't make sense either. The Corsair TX power supplies are for the most part made by CWT just like the Corsair CX series.

what about CoolerMaster Silent Pro M 1000W, is this series good for 2-3 nonoverclocked high end cards?

also please check whether you have in msi afterburner or whatever equiualent software you use activated fan curve. i didnot at even at 99% load i got 72Celsius with fans at 43%. with activating it i got to 63-64Celsius at 99%

ps i am running on fortron 500w a 660ftw evga card + q9550 @ 3.4 from 2.83GHz and wattage usage from wall was 239watt at max

I have an EVGA GTX 660 SC and am using Evga precision X 3.0.4 can you tell me about fan curve settings? Am not familiar to these overclocking softwares.

The 750 is but the 650 is not. And I was just suggesting that price wise that the GX series power supply is in line with these other power supplies I have really no experience with a cooler master power supply i have a ax850 I don't mettle with cheaper power supplies.

And I don't really understand of late the whole CX430 push on the forums its rather bothersome that people are being pushed a cheaper power supply that really caps you out. I would think a 550w or a 650w would at least give you breathing room and some room for expandability.

i am not using precision nor am i overclocking the card, i mean mine is supposed to be 1137 tough is running out of box at 1178MHz boost somehow

Well, better a decent-quality PSU that has little room for upgrades than a poor-quality PSU with some room for upgrades.

Cooler Master GX is IMO not in line with Corsair TX. It would struggle to match even Corsair CX PSUs.
I suppose you could say that compared to Corsair AX they're all crap. But definitely different grades of crap.

So i used you settings and i did check it in battlefield 3 at 70-75% fan use with the load of 99% the temperature was 65-69c .. So what do you think? is it good?

Those are good temperatures yes. I had power enabled, gpu temp, gpu usage, and fan speed enabled I think that is how they appear in order.

65%, 59-73 C, 95%, and 54%

^ That article is from 2008. There have been 3 new generations of those power supplies since.
The 650TX was made by Seasonic.
The 650TX V2 was mde by Seasonic.
The current 650TX 75-001315 / CP-9020038 is made by CWT.

The 750TX was made by CWT.
The 750TX V2 was made by Seasonic.
The current 750TX 75-001309 / CP-9020042 is made by Chicony Power Technology

The latest 430CX is still made by CWT but has been bumped up in power ( 384 12v watts vs 336 in the older ones ) and efficiency to 80 Plus Bronze. The reason people recommend it is because it scores very highly in testing ( 9 + Recommended buy from jonnyguru ) and it's plenty of power for people with mid range graphics cards. Newer cards use less power than older cards. 430 watts is exactly what's recommended for a system with an HD 7770 or a GTX 660 or a GTX 650 Ti. They don't just make up these numbers and that leaves you plenty of headroom for overclocking.

Yea I wish there was a better database to keep up with the different revisions of the oems on the power supplies but either way. The TX, and HX power supplies uphold quality the CX doesn't. At least according to. I'm not saying that th4 430 isn't a good power supply just still locks you in you careally cant expand to a 670, 680, 7970 type card. And you probably also don't have much room for other things Raid configurations, professional audio cards as examples.

A great many people never have the money to get a higher end card and as long as they plan on sicking with a midrange model 400-500 watts is ideal. Hard drives use about 8 watts......sound cards use less.....those things do not require a larger power supply.

I thought everyone know about this by now.

Sound cards don't use less if the sound card needs a 4 pin molex like the Essence STX does I did say professional.

And that link isn't what I'm after I want a full well kept database of every revision of all the modern PSU's and the oems that they use no1 has that.

well i used sharper fan curve and and now have 75% fan speed at 65Celsius and so my top temp on gpu went down from 63-64 to 56-58C. wau thats like at 74-56C, 16-18C just by turning on dual fans of my evga 660 ftw signature 2 3gb card :)
