My grandson has an AMD A10-7870K CPU which has a built in R7-250. He also installed a second R7-250 to improve his overall Graphics performance..
He now wants to upgrade his second GPU to an AMD RX 580..is this possible and will it work as his other graphics is still an R7-250

Solution
No, absolutely do not get that CPU. It's a hot, power hungry monster that requires an expensive motherboard and cooler, and offers sub-par performance. If you're going to get a new motherboard, either get an AM4 board that supports AMD's new Ryzen CPUs, or switch to Intel. Either way, you'll need new DDR4 RAM as well.
OK Thanks for your prompt responses. Bearing in mind I am operating at the limit of my technical knowledge and as usual have a limited budget I have looked at what's available that he can afford (With a little help from me) and would like to know if the following config would be the best return for our money

CPU - AMD FX 9370 4.4GHz Octa Core (Socket AM3+) CPU
GPU - MSI Radeon RX 580 GAMING X 8GB Graphics Card
+ update motherboard and PSU

Thanks for the warning, I have looked at costs and availability and my local supplier sells Motherboard & CPU packages and has this on offer

ASUS Prime B350M-A and AMD Ryzen 5 1500X AMD and if I add my original idea for GPU, (MSI Radeon RX 580 GAMING X 8GB Graphics Card) and 32mb DDR4 it looks like I will have a fairly good gaming system with a lower power consumption and less cooling.
