I'm wanting to upgrade my RAM to 16gb. I currently have x2 4gb already in my rig https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16820233284 and want to add x2 4gb for a total of 16gb. My question is what RAM would be compatible with the RAM I already have in my system? I can't find my excat RAM anywhere and I've always been told not to mix RAM. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
Matching up identical part numbers and making combinations that way carry no guarantee to be compatible together.

Workarounds to get extra memory to work together include:
Lower DRAM frequency
Relax DRAM timings
Increase DRAM voltage
Lower CPU multiplier

Memory is guaranteed in the form sold and not in any other combinations.

Yeah like the other guy said, it's hit or miss when you match different sticks or pairs of kits. Even the exact same model memory may not work or at the very least not "play nice" with each other. Reasons for this potential conflict include Corsair may have used different makes of memory modules from one production cycle to the next (Micron one cycle, Samsung another cycle). On top of that you have a higher chance of this occurring when using all four DIMM slots even if they are matching pairs of kits. But you can try rolling the dice if you feel lucky and find memory that is the exact same speed, timings, CAS latency, and voltage ratings as what you currently have (make sure it's on the memory qualified vendor's list for your motherboard).

If I were you, I'd sell the 8GB and start over with a fresh 2x8GB kit from said vendor's list. People are buying memory on the used market because prices are so high right now (DRAM memory module shortage). This is one reason I generally "over buy" memory in new builds: I don't want the hassle of dealing with upgrading down the road. From an enthusiast user gamer perspective, in ten years we've gone from 2GB->4GB->8GB->16GB. And not too far off in the distance 32GB will be enthusiast level standard.
