Hey guys,

I have Legion Y520-15IKBN laptop and it's running great, but I need more RAM on it.

Serial number of the laptop is PF10S1SW and Machine Type Model: 80WK0097S

Currently I have ''Ramaxel RMSA3260MH78HAF-2666'' RAM according to Aida64 and my problem lies here.

On task manager, it says that my frequency of the ram is 2400mhz, but on the Aida and CPU-Z it says 2666mhz?

I'm confused, since I'm not that much into technology, but I understand the basics.

My motherboard name is ''Lenovo Y520-15IKBN''

You can view the documents of the reports on Aida for more details down below!

PS - I have 8gb currently and I'd like to add 1x 16gb more to it, so that the total goes to 24gb ram. Would there be any problems?

Thank you for your time!

That is a question for the manufacturer. I have no answer from their POV, for why they would put a faster speed memory on a slower suppporting laptop. I think probably because laptops that can under-clock a faster speed memory to a lower speed as supported will have no problems installing a one speed higher memory. If there is no issue with a faster speed, then they can install a faster memory i guess. Just my opinion.

This laptop supports only NON-ECC Memory type. You can choose 2400MHz or 2666MHz, either should work.

All three instar links are compatible sticks for your laptop.

If I have answered all your questions, please mark it as solved. Cheers!

Thank you! Why would they place 2666mhz memory inside a laptop which can't operate to it's full peak?

Should I buy 2400mhz or 2666mhz now, since I have 2666mhz inside already? Would there be any malfunction if I decide to buy lesser mhz value (2400) and pairing them up with an existing 2666mhz?

PS - is my RAM EEC or NON-EEC memory module?

The store in my town has these modules, will they work fine and should I choose 2400mhz or 2666mhz?
