Upgrading Ram ... mixing RAM with different timings bad?

Hey All,

I'm looking to go from 1 GB to 2 GB RAM.

I currently have OCZ 1Gb (2x512Mb) Premier Series DDR400 with timings 2.5-3-3-7.

I'm still on a s754 board and I am planning on getting OCZ 1Gb Performance Series DDR400 with timings 3-3-3-8.

What the heck are timings? and does it matter if they aren't the same?

Thanks in advance.

Timings are the latency it takes to access RAM basically, and your mobo will default your timings for all RAM to the slowest, so all your RAM will be 3-3-3-8.

So If I don't plan to OC it won't matter will it? it won't reduce my performance by adding that extra stick of ram with slow latencies?

For a total of 2, no. But the Performance Series isn't as OCable as the Premier, I would grab another Premier if you could but yes, you can OC w/o issues w/ that other stick.
