Hi all,

I have an old gaming PC that I would like to upgrade. My PC knowledge is all over the place. In the end, the best I can do is narrow it down to what I THINK are my best choices.

So here is my system specs:

HAF 935 CoolMaster Full tower
850 Watt Corsair Gold power supply
Asus p6t Mother Board
Intel Core i7 920 CPU stock speed is 2.6 GHZ
Water Cooled CPU with 240MM Fan
SSD drive...cant remember the spec....I got windows 10 on it.
Velicoraptor 10000rpm secondary drive.
4GB Kingston Hyper X ram

So I read that 24 GB is max RAM I can get. So I am shooting for 12GB or 24 if I can get a good price.
I will be replacing the RAM that is in there..not adding to it.

I am confused on the SPEED part. There is the 1333, 1600, 1800, 2000 and then there is the PC3 12800 etc.

I don't understand the PC3 12800 or PC310700 thing.
I believe I have narrowed it down to the following RAM sticks. Please comment on if I am making a mistake.

G Skillz F3-12800CL9T2-24GBRL

G Skillz F3-12800CL9T-12GBSR2 1.25Volts????

G Skillz F3-12800CL9T-12GBSR 1.5 Volts????

Those are the ones that I am thinking about. Any tips or pointers would be great.

I'd like to order these today if possible, but that's just my wishful thinking.

Ive dabbled with the BIOS overclocking features and want to find something that will SYNC with the XMP feature so that the RAM and CPU overclock harmoniously (automatically).

Thanks in advance...last time I posted a question i got answers in like an hour which was amazing. I don't expect to be lucky like that again though.

The "PC3-XXXXX" is just another name for the same thing.
So,
DDR3-1600 = PC3-12800
DDR3-1866 = PC3-14900
DDR3-2133 = PC3-17000

F3-12800CL9T2-24GBRL

The motherboard supports speeds up to DDR3-2000
Thank you for the response.

The Corsair ones are 149 USD. for the 24 GB.

Is there a better RAM manufacturer choice other than the ones I picked? Or a faster speed?

Do you think going 24Gb is overkill? Would 12Gb work as well considering my old CPU limitations? I was hopping to get the CPU overclocked between 3.0 - 3.4 Ghz using the XMP profiles in my MOBO bios.

Thank you for your advice. That little bit about liking my pc that its a classic gave me a warm feeling...and im not the warm and fuzzy type. My 13 yr old got the new one I bought in Dec 2108.

Im still a little conflicted, and I want to order this part today if I can...…..If the Asus p6t supports 2000 speed.....the spec say 2000 (OC)...then what can I get in the 12 Gb 2000 speed range? I really want it to have the XMP ability.

I can order today if I stay around $120....anything more I need to wait till the 15th of the month.

thanks for the vote of confidence.
It's gonna be great for your computer.

In the meanwhile, maybe a good rebuild, of the entire system, is a good idea...if you have the time of course...

The system is about 10 years old now...

Just take out all the parts, dust and clean, and put everything back together, with new thermal paste, and a fresh installation of Windows 10...and you'll be ready to rock...

Peace.
