Upgrading ram question

I am going to upgrade my ram from 6gb to 8gb by buying another 4gb stick to replace the 2gb one I currently have. Do I need to buy the same make of ram or can it be from two different companies as long as it is the same type?

the same make would be the best you can also different brands but there is always a 50 -50 chance when u mix ram of different brands also get the ram of same MHZ...

If you mix different ram you are asking for trouble, you need to find with same speed, voltage and timing: e.g: 1600 mhz, 1.5 volt and cl 9.
