In light of the massive system requirements of recent games, i am planning to upgrade my ram to 32gb.

I already have 2 3000 mhz corsair ram modules of 8gb capacity, motherboard is Asus strix b365g gaming.

If i add a single 16gb 3000 mhz corsair ram stick, will it work properly with my existing 8gb modules in dual channel mode? Also if instead of 3000 mhz,i opt for a higher frequency ram ,say 3600 mhz, would that cause compatibility issues with existing 3000 mhz rams?

Or will dual channel not work unless i add two similar 8 gb modules to increase the capacity to 32 gb.

I am more inclined to get a single 16gb dimm as its a bit cheaper and will require just 1 additional ram slot.

Please advice.

No.
It would either work in single channel mode, flex mode (part in single channel, part in dual channel mode) or not work at all.

Assuming it works at all, it would work at 3000mhz (not 3600mhz).

Dual channel mode works only with pairs of ram modules.
For best chance to avoid compatibility issues go with 2x16GB dual channel kit.
