Hi Everyone,
I hope you can help me here, I have spent quite a lot of time trying to achieve an answer just via google, but alas no luck.
I currently have an Acer Aspire E380 with an EM61SM/EM61PM motherboard. The system is 32 bit Vista
Currently I have the following RAM installed:
2 x 512MB (slots 1 & 3) 5300U 667MHz (this is the original RAM that came with the PC)
2 x 1GB (slots 2 & 4) 6400U 800MHz (this was a later upgrade from a few years back)
this has worked fine for years. I recently tried to upgrade to the max capacity of 4GB RAM by purchasing 2 more of the exact 1GB RAM. However, when I take out the original RAM and put in the new RAM, the system boots up and after 1 minute or so, crashes with a blue screen (check new hardware etc).
It seems to me that the motherboard is defaulted tot he bus speed of 667MHz and doesn't like the brand new RAM in slots 1 & 3.
is there anyway of changing this in the BIOS (I looked but am unsure) so that it will accept the new RAM and allow me to have 4GB?
Many thanks in advance.
Rich
