Hello, I have a question about a ram upgrade.

specs: 1 GB RAM (512MBx2 OCZ DDR 400)
Nvidia 7900 GT
AMD 3500 (939)
430W power supply
Windows XP

So far this setup is fine. I see that adding another two 512MB ram modules would only cost me $60 or so. Would another gig help if in the future I would upgrade to Vista and with current games, or should I wait to redo the whole system? It is hard to pass by a gig of RAM for that price though becaues I thought DDR1 prices were supposed to skyrocket. Thanks guys.

Extra ram is always good, but if will be upgrading to Vista. 2gb of ram is way to go. Here is a matched pair of 2gb ram below for roughly 50 dollars more.

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F1-3200PHU2-2GBNS - Retail $109.99

Or save up for new system, depending on what Cpu (AMD or Intel you want to go with.

Ram : DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit between $88.00 to 130.

Mobo : AMD > NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP series if you want SLi $100 to 300. Evga is best bang for the money.
AMD > NVIDIA GeForce 7000 series for non SLi $65 to 85.

Intel > NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI $165 to 300. EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 is best bang for the money.
Intel > Intel P35 series $95 to 250. The Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R is best bang for your money.

CPU : AMD > 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz $170 or wait for new 64 X2 6400+ due out soon.

Intel > Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz FSB1333MHz 4M $310 to 330.

PSU : 620w > Enermax or Corsar $140 to 150 range
720w Enermax $219 ; either PC & Cooling 750w $200 to 210 and OCZ 780W $180.
(Depends if you are or will be upgrading Graphic card in near future to a DX10 type)

Graphic Card : PCIe > Your card if it is one, if not then these.

Nvidia > 8800gts 320gb or 640gb EVGA $280 to 440.
(they have a 90 days StepUp program, see site for details)
ATI > 2900XT Sapphire $390 to 490

Those are what you need for new system build. Hope that helps you out.

Ok, I have another question. I hace ocz ddr400 ram (2 512 sticks). they are the premier series (2.5-3-3-7, PDCK is at the end of the product code). I cannot find the premier series anymore, but i can get the performance series (specificed by PFDCK, 2-3-3-7). Both are 2.6 volts, except the latency on the performance series is a tad different. Would 2 512mb sticks of the performance series be ok or should i just buy two completely new sticks of 1 gb each to get my system to two gigs. thanks.

I recently did this for my rig - I bought 2 matched 512MB sticks of DDR400 value ram and added them into my socket 939 board.

Actually makes quite a bit of difference, especially on memory hungry games like Stalker. Oh, and I run Vista.
