Hi there!

I own an Acer Aspire 5739G 664G50Mn and I was just wondering if I could do something to upgrade it? (Not motherboard), aside from buying a new laptop?

Kind Regards,
Erik

Components which can be upgraded are restricted to RAM and hard drive, so you can add more RAM or install a new hard drive with larger capacity. Adding more RAM will boost performance much more than adding a new hard drive.

Remember that 32-bit Windows can only address up to 3.2 GB RAM. You need 64-bit Windows to make use of more than that.

I currently got 4GB of RAM on it, think I remember I read somewhere that it doesn't support more. Was looking for a little more powerful GPU and about 8GB of RAM. So that development on it as well as FSX gaming would go more painless

I don't think it possible to change the GPU (ATI or nvidia) because the chip itself is soldered on the motherboard. Additionally the original cooling for GPU will not be able to handle the extra heat new GPU will create. This apply to almost all the laptops. Only highend version, Alienware for example, might have replaceable video card laptops and most of them are 17 in type.

Your best bet for gaming would be a desktop. Laptops are not the best plaform for gaming.
