my budget has increased allowing me to further upgrade my GPU. so i will be picking either the ASUS matrix 7970 PLATINUM(649 SGD) vs the ASUS GTX 680 direct cu II TOP(629 SGD). which is better???

Solution

Its the ASUS GTX 680 direct cu II TOP
VS
ASUS matrix 7970 PLATINUM

Out of these two the GTX 680 comes out on top.

NO , GTX 680 is a lot slower than HD 7970 after driver update ~
+ this edition is = Ghz Edition and more faster ~
So Pick Asus Matrix 7970 Platinum is a better deal for u ~

Solution
All the GPUs mentioned are relatively close in performance... certain games may favor one over the other. I would consider price and cooling solution first. You may have a preference for Nvida vs. AMD as well.

Then u better take a look at recent R9 280X benchmark before u make big mistake in this thread ~
Simply R9 280X just a rebrand of HD 7970 ~
But it simply as fast as a GTX 770 in some benchmark ~
And This HD 7970 Matrix just a faster version of reference R9 280X
So I got no doubt , GTX 680 is not compareable to this card ~

Are you not reading what I'm saying? The ASUS matrix 7970 PLATINUM beats a normal GTX 680 yes. But the ASUS GTX 680 direct cu II TOP which is an overclocked edition etc runs a little faster than the ASUS matrix 7970 PLATINUM. I'm referring to the cards the OP posted. Not the normal gtx 680.

Just an example. On 3DMark11 the Normal GTX 680 gets an average score of around 9900. The Asus Matrix 7970 gets around 10700 to 10800 while the ASUS GTX 680 gets 10900 to 11000+ score. And this was with the AMD Drivers that boosted its performance.

I'm not making a mistake here. I'm talking about the actual card mentioned and not the general 680.

I'd suggest you wait for them to release the 780 ti and see what benchmarks that gives compared to the 280x and 290x. Also the price list you showed doesn't reflect the price cuts NVidia has given to their 770, 780 and titan cards. You should be able to get a 780 for around $500-600. Do you have to buy from this specific shop?

That release should be soon btw and quite a few companies have priced the 780 ti at around $699.

yes i do.
but when will the 780ti be released? i will be building a pc in 4 days time cause my major exams are will be over on that day.
and just plan to play games like bf4,metro,bf3, borderlands, and not games like crysis 3( holy sh*t, this game is really graphically intensive)

and 699 for the 780ti would cause about a thousand in sg cause the prices here are overly exaggerated

Well the release of the 780 ti should be very soon. A lot of companies have been showing their versions of the card here and there. Apparently it beats the GTX Titan and 290x. So maybe wait little while and see?

No exactly sure. Should be in a few weeks. If time is an issue then check with the company to see if they can get the 290x. Maybe even ask them why their prices don't include the Nvidia price cuts 😛

I have read that the 280x and 290x have heating issues which is sorted out if you manually adjust the GPU's fan a little higher.

Get this card, this is the best card in terms of price/performance

Gigabyte R9 280X 3GB DDR5 Winforce OC - 449 dollars in your currency.

The 7970, 770, 680 and 280x, 7970 Ghz Edition, they all perform about the same, so seriously pick the one which is the cheapest among them.

The 7970 and 280x are preffered over the 770 and 680 because it has 1GB more VRAM which might come in handy in games which use high resolution textures. They would come in handy prefferably when you are modding the games with high res texture packs like Skyrim highly modded would advantage out of the extra VRAM.

GTA V that is coming to PC in 2014 might advantage due to more VRM.

Also the wider bus on the 7970 and 280x (384 bit) allows the memory to be used more efficiently than the 770 and 680 (256 bit)

Hence get the 280x. It is a boss GPU for the price.

Go for the 280X which I recommended above in bold letters.

Price to performance wise the 280x is the better option like Sangeet said. The GTX 770 is a little faster but more expensive.

Ideally, if you focus only on performance, you would want the Sapphire R9 290X 4GB DDR5 (Battlefield 4)..799 which is above your price range by a little bit but you get battlefield 4 code with it apparently (Just double check on this). This card would let you run battlefield 4 on ultra with 65-125 fps if your CPU is good enough.

I guess it comes down to what you really want? Best performance card regardless of price or maybe a little less performance and save some money in the process? If you want to save a little money then id suggest going with what Sangeet said. Otherwise the GTX770's are in your price range with a little bit more performance.

If going for that one then id rather go for the

MSI GTX770 TF Gaming 2GB / 4GB OC....$669 / $699 (4gb $699 option)

OR

Gigabyte GTX770 4GB OC Edition $719 Better performance than the 280x

hmmmm..... i'll give it some thought and finalize what card i'll get.
in the mean time thank you Sangeet Khatri,ZionZA,Embra,vipervoid1 and Zuul for all your suggestions. i dont find picking pc parts a hassle at all and find that its really fun, and i'll type down my final decision on this post so u guys can know( flag this post so you'll know what i'm getting!)

No problem

Best is to read as many reviews as you can about the cards. Should help you make a better decision. Anyways. Good luck and you won"t really make a bad decision. These cards have very similar performance.
