Hi all. I been wanting to upgrade my pc bit by bit since I can't afford to buy all the components for a new build in one go.
Current specs are
I5 2500k cpu
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD30 MoBo
EVGA GTX580 gpu
2 x 4g corsair vengeance ram
Corsair AX850 gold psu

My question is, would it be worth sucking a new gtx 1070 in such an old build? What do you all think?

Solution
The higher the resolution you run, the more important the videocard is and the less important the CPU is. So, in your case, a 1070 at 1440p would not be bad. A 1070 for gaming at 1080p, such as with a high refresh rate monitor, would not be a great idea with this CPU.

If you are planning to eventually have an all new build, then I'd just stick with what you have now while you save money. Once you have enough, buy it all at one time. The advantage there is that newer components will be out by then, meaning more choices for you and lower prices for better performance.

yes

BUT you would need to upgrade to an i7 3770k, and overclock it a bit

the 1070 would be held back with your current cpu
