Upgrading the laptop memory

My laptop HP 6530b has Core2Duo 2.66 GHz and 2GB of memory running at 400 MHz. The way the laptop runs it does not feel like it is a Core2Duo 2.66 GHz laptop. I bought two 2GB 800 MHz PC6400 modules. I opened up the laptop memory compartment, and to my surprise I only see one single slot, and it was empty, so I went ahead and put the module in it. I was expecting another module, the factory installed one, but I didn't see it there, so I could not replace the second module.

Anyway, I started the laptop and now it shows the 4GB memory, but it of course continues to run at 400 MHz. CPU-z is showing 6-6-6-18 @ 400 MHz.

What do I do? How do I get rid of the factory-installed memory module. It is dragging it down. Or do I have to make some changes in the BIOS to get it to 800 MHz. The laptop specs say that it comes with 2GB memory at 800 MHz. So what is limiting the memory in my laptop.

Hmm this is the only link or hp site i could find for you system on memory upgrade.
may help may not

It does say its upgradable to 8gig of 800mhz with 2 4 gig modules. I can't seem to find any diagram that shows it in detail though.

Ah I see the main mdule is on the top side of the mother board and the expansion is on the bottom side. Thats why you were seeing an empty slot.
You have to follow the guide and remove the keyboard to replace the main module.

Thank you. I was able to replace the primary module with one of the new modules. Unfortunately they are still coming up at 400 MHz. The timings are 6-6-6-18. I went into BIOS, surprisingly it has graphics interface. But it appears to be very basic. I did not see all the cool features that BIOS usually has, like multipliers to over-clock etc, nor I saw any place to change those memory timings.

I don't know what's going on. I don't even know what I should set those values to even if I see the options. I really need to get it up at 800 MHz.

Any help will be appreciated.
