upgrading to 970 for jc3

I have a asrock z97 extreme 4 mobo and intel i5 4690k, amd r9 280x, 600m corsair psu, and i would like to upgrade to a gtx 970. Is this a good idea?

The reason for the upgrade is because just cause 3 came out and i run it at 20 fps near buildings. Thanks for reading.

Well you can run this GPU with no problem. Your CPU is really good, thing is r9 280x should not be underperforming this hard.

It would improve performance, but I'm not sure the improvement would be worth the price of the new card. I would suggest waiting for AMD to release their game specific driver then try to find out what settings are causing the drops and lower them a bit. If I was in your position, I would wait for the 16nm cards and upgrade then.

280x is still a really a good GPU and runs with the GTX 960. Have you researched performance between the 280x and 970 on JC3 to see if it's even worth it? On new games a lot of times there's a bug or driver glitch that causes problems and clears up after some rounds of patches. I would wait a bit to see if patches improve performance first.

I wouldn't upgrade just for just cause 3, but because i know in the future years, my gpu will be knocked out with the graphics of future games, and id rather get the upgrade now.
