Okay. So I'm upgrading my CPU to a Intel Core i7-4790K and I'm having a spot of trouble picking out a motherboard. I think I've narrowed it down to two boards, the GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK or the ASUS Z97-A. However, I'm not entirely certain on what separates the two.

Which one should I pick? Or is there an even better board that I am forgetting about? On what basis should I be picking out motherboards, anyway? There's obviously component compatibility and having enough room for all your storage and GPUs, but is that all? What if I want to try overclocking? Would that affect my choice in any way?

If you would recommend something else, know that I don't want to spend much more than $140.

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

From those two options I would go with the UD3H, now, if you accept another options I would also suggest this:

1) MSI Z97-Gaming 5
2) GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming 5
3) MSI Z97-GD65 Gaming

Now, if you can move on your budget a little more, this two options are excellent:

1) ASUS Z97-PRO
2) ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK2
