Hey community,

I currently have a GTX 670 and an AMD FX-4100 3.6 Ghz, and was thinking of upgrading to a AMD FX-8350 4.0 Ghz, as it's on sale for $160 at Newegg.

So my question is: how big of an upgrade would this be? How noticeable?

I kind of figured I needed a new processor when Borderlands 2 wasn't running crispy smooth on half max settings...

Let me know if you need more information about my PC

Thanks

Is it your CPU that is the bottleneck or the video card? Which one is at 100% when you get "less than decent" performance?

You can go to Passmark.com and look in their CPU benchmark section for comparative performance between the two processors. Bear in mind to lok at the relevant single- or multi-tasking performance depending on whether your came can exploit many cores simultaneously - not many games do, so for most games single-thread perform acne is al that really matters.

How do I check which is bottlenecking?

it really depends on the game on how much you will see in improvement. The 400mhz will barely be noticeable so if the game runs on only 4 cores then you will see a little improvement but if the game can use more then you will see a even more.

Are there any cards I can buy within my price range (about $200) that would increase performance to any great degree?
