Upgrading to an i7 870 in 2017

Hello, at the moment my computer is kitted out with an i3 550 from the lga1156 socket. I am wanting to upgrade but my problem is I'm currently unemployed and only have about 200-250 to spare. Would upgrading to in i7 870 be the best route. A long with the i7 I could upgrade to an SSD a long with an extra 4GB bumping it up to 8gb? Or should I spend 250 on an 1151 socket and CPU

I certainly wouldn't spend 250 on an i7 870, but for $70 it doesn't seem like a bad move:

Especially if you sell your i5, your net cost will probably be something like $25.

I can get one for 52 pound so roughly 60-65 dollars from a proper retailer, it's used but probably the way I will go

The i7 870 is still a good CPU.

750 Ti, my current i3 550 is bottlenecking my GPU if I had to guess.
