Upgrading from an i5 8600k to and i9 9900kf and would like to double check the compatibility of my current system before I drop a fta lump of cheese on a new cpu. From what I believe I should be all good but I want to be sure.

Current specs
I5 8600k OC 5ghz
16gb 2x8gb 2400 corsair vengance lpx
500W gold psu
Gigabyte Z370P D3

Solution
Your motherboard supports the 9900kf, but you have to make sure that the bios is at F12 or higher before you put that cpu in. I would highly recommend upgrading the speed of your memory so that your new cpu can stretch it's legs. 3600mhz would be a good place to start at. Just curious what gpu are you going to use?

You'll need a GPU, the f in that 9900kf means no igpu.

You'll also need bios rev f12

While technically supported i'd be worried about the weak VRMs on the board keeping up with the i9.

Sorry I forgot to specify that I'm using a gtx 1080ti, I'm happy with it for now and may upgrade next year. Next week I'm ordering 2 x 16 gb 3600mhz :). Do I update through gigabytes page?

I doubt the motherboard will have trouble handling an stock i9, i wouldn't dare to touch it though, just keep it stock and cool.
Thank you for the helpful advice, I'll keep it stock for now. Save up and get a decent MOBO in the coming months and then look into overclocking. Oh and make sure I upgrade my bios to 15 also.
Sorry not sure what item you are asking about upgrading through Gigabytes page.
The bios

Both games are not that demanding, compared to todays standards.
Either way, you should see a improvement.
Also a 8 core/16 thread CPU is very good for future-proofing your system. I don't see why you i9 wouldn't be enough for any game for lets say the next 5 years. Ultimately, you could get a better motherboard and overclock it for even more longevity.
Unlike my 4 core/ 8 thread i7 3770K, which is showing its age, and I need to replace it soon ;(

I found the i9 on awd-it for £230, I thought it was a really good deal so I'm getting it before stocks run out
