I think it might bottleneck your CPU, you would need at least an FX8350 which I had before to run the 1060.
But a 1050Ti still might cause heavy sweat for your CPU, but in terms of performance and value, I would still go for it as a future solution when you upgrade your other components, you won't need to deal with the GPU dilema again.
The 1050 does have higher core and boost clock speeds, much newer, uses a lot less power and preforms better in lower resolutions but the 260x actually has better overclocking capabitlities and it has better performance at higher resolutions like 1920x1080, 2560x1440 or 3840x2160. Its really up to you if you want too upgrade or not but if you want better preformance then you should go for it or buy a cheap 1050 ti which would be a big step.

1050 ti is 20 dollars more but i think for the 4 gb it might be worth it

im looking at a 1050 ti right now. just how much difference is it gonna make compared to 1050? and supposedly any GPU higher than 1050 ti would bottleneck my cpu? or ram?

The Ti should have the best price to performance even though it costs that little bit more

I think That you should go for it, 1050Ti is about 25% faster in terms of gaming performance than a GTX 960 I have owned recently.
This means you will receive a huge boost of speed, also 1050Ti eats less power.

would a gpu higher than 1050 Ti bottleneck my cpu and ram?

so youve owned a gtx 960 before, do you think getting a gpu higher than 1050 ti would bottleneck my cpu and ram?
like 1060 for example
