Upgrading to HD 4870

Jun 11, 2009
I currently have a HD 4670 which is serving me well but my local PC store has marked the HIS Radeon HD 4870 Turbo (512 DDR5) down to $115. Needless to say, the price for this more powerful card has sparked my interest. Problem is I have a 500W power supply w/ two 6-pin connectors but I do not know how many watts each of the connectors is pushing. The HIS website recommends 75W for each 6-pin connector. The label on my PSU says its 336W combining each of the 12v rails (16A on 12v1 & 17A on 12v2). Am I safe?

I have a 23" Samsung monitor 1920X1080 so I'm thinking the 4870 will help push 1080p more efficiently than my 4670.
