Hello,

I currently own a i5 2500K paired with a R9 270 GPU.
Now I am going to fully upgrade my system for shure this year but am not shure what I should buy first. It is a choice between a i7 6700K now and a GTX 970 later, or vice versa.

So my question comes down to what gives me the best results now: upgrading the CPU or GPU?

Solution
In this case then you should go for the i7 unless you intend to play newer games coming out this year at the max settings the gpu would be a better option. So I'm going to make a decisive decision here for you, the i7 is the best way to go at the moment, and then upgrading your GPU in the next 6 months maybe is a good plan, by that time the 1000 series for NVIDIA should be out.
For games i5 2500K is still good enough. Pairing it with GTX 970 would be good idea. I7 6700K would be overkill at the moment.
So you better upgrade your card, and later you can get a new cpu then you feel that the old i5 is not enough.

I would suggest the cpu, there is already a lot of money spent there, ram motherboard and cpu, that make me wonder if you need to keep one why not look for a higher video card like 980 or a fury nano that is 500 dls right now, but anyway It will be better the cpu as you said and wait a middle of the year for see the next video cards that are coming.
