Hi guys,

I want to upgrade from my old rig to somethinga bit more newer if would say, im currently running :

i5 4670
Z87 - g43 mobo
8gig corsair vengance ram @ 1866mhz ddr3
MSI gtx780 oc gaming
corsair gs600w psu

Everything is runningon air, from my previous build what can I keep for my new build, im planning to build :

i7 7700k
Msi z270 krait gaming ddr4 or z270 gaming pro carbon ddr4 (same price)
Crucial ballistix 8gig @ 2400mhz
Antec A30 cpu cooler

Should I go with water cooling for my pc as the gpu ill be buying year end is gtx1080ti sea hawk x oc edition

This whole build will cost me about R25 000.00 / $1900 and thats without a new case and a psu, I only have about $2000 to spend on the upgrade what should I do or should I sell the old pc

Edit : I just saw my rig is in my sig and I didnt change it much in this past 4years

As you said...keep the 780...it is perfect for 1080p gaming. There is no need to change that. But if you want 4k gaming then I'd suggest you wait until 2019. Right now you need the best GPU out there to game on 4k. But in 2 years that will change. Have you considered 1440p monitors? There are many that also have Gsync or 144Hz. Late 2015 I bit down and bought a 1440p 165Hz monitor knowing...seeing..that it is the next stage before 4k.

In future..plan on your monitor, not tv..to be your main source, or at least where you game. Just keep the 780 and sell off what you can. If not then consider a living room pc for movies and couch pc use.

Btw, I too think the 4yr upgrade is right. Next time I pull it apart and start anew will be 2021...

I didnt include stuff like SSD and HDD or even blueray writer since I already have them, sorry for not saying before.

The store I buy all my pc tech has advised me to wait for new nvidia cards coming out early 2018 and since I expect my currency to be stronger than the dollar Q1 im thinking maybe I should soldier on with the 780, truth be told the 780 hasnt struggled but I upgrade every 4 years so should I realy change it?

Ok. Just make sure to get faster RAM.

Are you gaming at 1080p? If so, then no reason to upgrade from the 780. But yeah the new Nvidia GPUs aren't supposed to come out until Q1/Q2 of 2018. Sad, but this year is a no Nvidia year. Giving AMD a chance to make some money.

Yeap the price jump from 8gig to 2*8gig of ram is not bad and ill do so as per your advice.

Currently im gaming @ 1080p but ill be making the jump to 4k when prices go down for the holidays.

Anyway is there anything I should keep from my current pc, its old but I love it so much and I really dont want to upgrade but I know I have to because its 4years old and im not a fan of overcloking

It's best to buy good CPU, slightly more than you think, and upgrade the GPU with time. My old rig went through 4 GPU changes in 5yrs. A little excessive but last one I knew was longer term.

I have never been a fan of 1440p, I have a 1080p monitor and a tv, I normally use the tv for fifa, racing and fighting games but I generally play on my monitor, anyway im getting a new samsung UHD tv and a 4k asus rog swift monitor I have been in 1080p for far too long.

Thanks for the advice ill use the 780 till next year and then get a gpu then.

I'd rather 4k monitor (for myself) but the prices and GPU needed aren't worth it yet. That's why I suggested on waiting a bit longer. When I went from a 1080p to 1440p 165Hz monitor there was a massive difference. The difference was felt immediately (I'm a fps gamer) and I have less than zero regrets. I do hope to jump to 4k when the monitor prices and GPU prices are in line. So far they are not. And I think I am trending right to say that won't be until 2019 as soonest.

Again, since you have a 780 and game on 1080p, there is no reason to upgrade, especially now (in the worst price GPU mkt ever, miners, and probably why Nvidia is in no rush to push a new line when they dominate in higher end.)
