Good day, I currently use an i5-7500 for gaming paired it with a 1070 and 2x2666 mhz ram. Since a ryzen 7 2700 is being sold at 50% off same price as an i5-9400f would it be a good upgrade? ryzen 3600 is a bit expensive for me since I am buying a new board and ran would be the next upgrade if i go ryzen... i also have a gammaxx 400 if the wraith cooler wouldnt be able to handle slight oc, would i also be able to oc it to at least 3.9 or 4.0?

You won't notice a lot of difference in gaming. The 3600 would make more sense. The single and double core performance is almost the same for the i5-7500 and the 2700.

The 2700 would be more future proof, but in current games you won't have much improvement.

It depends on the game. I recently upgraded from an i5 6500 to a ryzen 5 2600, oc’ed to 4.1 ghz and saw significant gains especially when it came to frame drops/stuttering. Went from dropping below 60 on BFV and CODMW to solid 60, on higher settings too.

However, I agree with swarzenegger and you should save for a 3600. The 2700 is still a worthy option if you cannot wait

i am not much in high fps i only game in 1080p even medium settings is fine by me, 3600 is a bit expensive in my situation, the 2700x would been nice if it was cheaper too, i realy like its core count for the price and its a low tdp proc too, does that 4.0 ghz oc be all cores or single core only? and would that 8 cores 16 threads along with a 4.0 ghz or higher oc frequency last me enough? i dont plan to upgrade for a long time and i would use it til it becomes so obsolete that it wont pass in any future games anymore.
