Hi,

To start of, these are my current full system specs:
CPu: Ryzen 5 5600x
Motherboard: Asus ROG B450-F
GPu: RTX 3090
RAM: 4x 8GB DDR4 3000Mhz
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 850 Gold-v2 Full modular

Is it worth upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800x? I mainly game on 1080p monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate.

your computer is... absolutely overkill.

The 3090 is completely a 4K and above card for even the most demanding game, and there's computers using a quarter of your budget that can achieve the same performance.

This will sound harsh but you already wasted your money on the 3090, I won't consider upgrading at all, instead I would sell the 3090 and buy a 3060, since at 1080P the 3090 can't even output the frame rate and you'll literally see 500+ FPS if the 5600X can catch up.

The 3090 was the only card I could buy at a reasonable price. All other models were (and are still) sold out or are being sold for ridiculous prices.

Like @Howardohyea stated, upgrading the cpu is pointless. The 3090 is pointless at 1080p, you would be better off spending those funds on upgrading your monitor to a 4k one, or hell even 1440 before wasting money on a 5800x.

Personally, I would dump the 3090, get a 3070 and a new 1440p monitor with the left over cash and enjoy.

I got a second monitor that is 1440p/165Hz, but I prefer the more smoother experience over the resolution. But considering there won't be a noticeable difference in FPS by upgrading, I'll keep the R5

Trust me, sell the 3090 and buy a 3060/3060Ti. Same frame rate and saves you $1000

Edit: also to your "ridiculous prices" I am almost certain other card's price/performance ratio is still higher than the 3090

With a 3090 you shouldn't see any difference in smoothness over 1080p. Is the 1080p monitor gsync/freesync and 1440 not?

don't sell the monitor, sell the 3090 and save yourself a few thousand bucks.

Edit: if you ask me I'd say a 3080 at 1440P is also overkill. a 3070 and a 3060Ti would be sufficient as well

Not if you play first person shooter games such as Warzone, BF, etc .. 3080 Ti at 1440 w/240Hz monitor is the sweet spot for those games in regards to smoothness at ultra settings.

Yeah, I play a lot of fps games such as Warzone, Modern Warfare and Cold War at max settings. But I don't feel like it's worth selling my 3090 to buy a 3080 Ti.
