Upgrading to SSD using a windows 7 system Image

I have a 300 GB hard drive in my computer. I would like to upgrade to a SSD drive, but likely would use a 120 GB Drive.......

My 300 GB hard drive has a 100 GB partion which is my C: boot drive. Can I make an windows 7 back up image of JUST the 100 GB C: partion and then restore that to the 100 GB SSD.

Does this work with the restriction that the drive you restore too is of equal size or larger?

You don't backup and restore to the SSD, you simply use drive imaging software to image that partition to the SSD.
