So it been little under a year since I built my pc. Having seen the boot times and games opening I thought it would be a good idea to invest and get an ssd to replace my hdd as the boot drive.

I plan to use the ssd as the os drive of course, and have anti virus drivers etc stored on the drive as well. I will probably store a few games on the drive as well and the rest on the hard drive.

I have been looking at drives my self, I live in the UK. Any recommendations you have are appreciated.

Solution
There are several brands of SSD which are good, so budget really is the key thing we need to know. For size if you can afford it I tend to feel 240GB/256GB is really the the best size for an SSD. The smaller ones get filled up quickly from just a few things, and the larger ones are good too but for just programs and games 240GB/256GB tends to be sufficient.

Solution
From a performance point of view, all modern ssd's perform the same in actual desktop usage.
I like Samsung and intel as quality brands. They make their own parts.
a 120gb ssd is minimum and will hold the os and a handful of games.
240g is better.
How much space is used on your hard drive?
If your new ssd can hold the contents, you can clone your hard drive and avoid any os reinstallation.
If it can't, read up on the Samsung clone utility which can clone, omitting such large files as videos.
