Upgrading to windows 10 (04/01/2016)

Hi guys im currently running a pirated copy of windows and of course, dont qualify for the free upgrade to windows 10. But what i was wondering that rather than buying a new windows 10 key which would cost upwards of 100 pounds, can i buy a windows 7 key for 40 pounds and then upgrade for free from that? thanks
