I was wondering if anybody knows if I can update from windwos 8.1 to windows 10 on my laptop. I get the icon to upgrade in the bottom but I was wondering if it is a smart idea to do so. Will upgrading cause drivers to not work properly? I looked for drivers and I could not seem to see anything for windows 10 and wanted to make sure that my laptop would still function properly before upgrading.

Solution
the win 10 installer will seek out and install any drivers it needs. you won't have to install anything yourself in most cases i have read about so far.

only thing i installed myself was the new win 10 amd drivers released yesterday. though my gpu was installed and working fine it was not this newest driver version. other than that, no worries. go for it :)

If you have the icon, you can upgrade...... personally, until MS stops force feeding hardware, secirity and feature updates, we will not be upgrading. In the last 48 hours, the forced updates broke SLI and broke Windows Explorer.

Might want to look at a few of these before deciding

One thing I have learned over the last 23 years managing IT on multiple sites: Never let Windows install hardware drivers. Of all the OS reinstalls I have had to do over those years, over 75% have been caused by bungled diver installs.

buy using the media creation tool MS released yesterday you can do the upgrade right now whether you reserved it or not. i did it yesterday and had not reserved anything. just select "upgrade this pc" after launching the media creation tool and let it do it's thing.

back up data first in case something goes wrong. nothing is perfect
