Upgrading video editing machine - i7 8700k vs Ryzen 2700x

Hey there! I'm a video editor using Premiere Pro also doing light animation using After Effects and I'm currently running an AMD FX8150 8 core (I know, I know) with a 980ti. The time has finally come to upgrade as my system throws a major wobbly trying to preview 1080p sequences with even basic plugins.

I'm looking at either the ryzen 2700x or i7 8700k. There's £100 difference between the two but it seems like the Intel is better at single core speeds which it seems like premiere is after? Does anyone have any advice or alternative suggestions? I could push to about £750 with CPU, cooling, mono and 32 gigs of DDR4.

Tough call, but, if strictly for work, editing, etc., I'd be tempted to opt for 8c/16t and 2700X perhaps....

(Unsure of Premiere Pro's fondness of clockspeed over core, perhaps youtube has a comparison in benchmarks giving more info....

Looking over it sometimes Intel wins sometimes amd wins in premere. It's a toss up and either will be awesome and a massive upgrade

Just make sure it's b450 or x470 (not b350/x370)

Some have different numbers of sata ports (some as few as 4) make sure you have enough for whatever your needs are.

And in your case definitely get either 3200mhz or 3400mhz ram.

I assume you know there is no onboard video with ryzen so it will certainly need a video card of some type to be used

Yup, I'm running a 980ti so that should be sufficient.

Thanks for your tips! Would you say it's better to go for 16 gig of 3400 or 32 gig of 2400?

90% of the time with ryzen the faster ram will be better. It actually makes the cpu run faster, not just ram specific tasks

I would go with AMD for editing in this price range. Better bang for buck and more threads for exporting work.

The 3000 series are coming out soon in the US. And already been spotted on some foreign websites.
The 3700'swill be 12 cores vs 2700's 8 cores.
As far as ram would suggest 2x16gb config.
