I have Windows 98 computer which contains the following parts:

Computer 166+ CYRIX SN: 970900-252
2 SIMM of 8 MEGS 72 PINS EDO
Motherboard QDI EXPLORER IV 512K PB
PROCESSOR 166+ CYRIX 133 MHZ
CD ROM 20X
VIDEO CARD PCI CIRRUS LOGIC 1 MEG
SOUND CARD 16 BITS COMPATIBLE
HARD DRIVE 1.3 GB FUJITSU 10 MS SN: 05510940

I plan to upgrade it by replacing motherboard with COMPAQ HENDRIX Motherboard 010699-001 w/ Pentium 3 and install second hard drive White Label 120GB 8MB Cache 7200RPM PATA/IDE 3.5" Desktop Hard Drive w/1 Year Warranty . Would upgraded computer work or there might be conflict of existing hardware? Would the Motherboard be compatible with the video card?

Wow, a Cyrix. I forgot about them.
May I ask what you do with this computer? I guess not play games, but maybe just office stuff?
As for upgrading it, well if you can upgrade to a P3, its going to be faster than what you have, but you may still have to reinstall windows 98.
Should be compatible, but you are talking about 20 year components, do they even still work? Who knows!

Here is the situation: technician tells me that my computer is AT and the part I want to replace is ATX and that they are not compatible. Is he right? Does there still exist parts for AT computer?
