I purchased a download of Win7 that came with a product key. I'm having a bit of a problem installing from the ISO on the flash drive I made. I'm upgrading a laptop from XP to Win7. My question. I have another win7 cd/DVD from a prior install on an older build. Can I use that CD and just enter the newer purchased product key when prompted?

Solution
Answer is.. no.
It is not like Vista that let you install any version of the license with any DVD of the OS. (Aka it selected things to install based on license key not on disc contents)
only problem with that was, there were no files that install wanted on dvd and you got a million missing file prompts and... not quite working install.

so.. as long as it is retail version of windows, you can get the installation ISO from microsoft:

Thanks for the reply! and therein my be the rub. My disks are for home premium, which is all I really need. My product key is for win7professional. Should they let this work as it's going backward? ie a more expensive key for a less expensive product
