i have a 1060 with my i5 4460, but if i were to upgrade to a 1070ti, would the performance increase be enough to warrant the upgrade? or would my cpu just spin out.
I agree it would just be more cost effective of buying a 1070ti then going ryzen lol.You would see a performance across the board, however in a good portion of games your 1070ti will be held back by the i5. If you need to upgrade your best bet would be to invest into a new platform
Thanks for your help. You've given me a lot to think about.Yes hyperthreading helps out older i7 cpus a ton in modern games. The only issue i have is that these older i7s are sought after for simmilar upgrades and have heavily inflated prices. I would weigh the price of a i7 4790 or 4770k in your region and compare it to the price of a newer ryzen 5 system.
A used i7 4790 is about 160, a lot more new.PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

What is the price of the i7 47X0 compared to this? I would opt for this if the i7s price is within $100 of this. A ryzen 5 and faster ram performs better than an i7 and has a good upgrade path. Also what mobo do you have?
No of coarse not lol, my 1060 came with my prebuilt, it was upgraded from the previous owner. Thanks for your help.Ok. Im hoping your not paying 299 for the 1060
Yeah the only reason i didn't go for a 240 gb ssd was for the 850 pro's performance. I now see the problem with that when windows takes 40 gbs on my ssd lol. Makes it rough some times.Thats a good list. You can get a 240gb Kingston SA400 ssd for $5 less than that 128 ssd.
Interesting i just compared ssds in pc benchmark's website, and all the 240 gb ssds in my price range where like 60 - 100 percent slower than the 850 pro. Don;t have another ssd to compare but good to know.850 does perform better, but its not something you will notice. I just saw a video of a cheap SATA SSD vs an expensive NVME SSD, vs HDD. The 2 ssds were within 1 second on windows and most games load times, with the hdd taking like 3 times the time.
Just 60hz, regular dell 1080p ultra slim monitor. Not moving to 1440p or 144hz until mayber later.Did you mention the resolution of your display, maybe the refresh rate as well? At a high resolution, the 1070ti would not be bottlenecked, but at a low resolution, it would.
Hey all my PC parts from new egg arrived yesterday, It took me about 2 hours to get the dang cpu cooler on, i suppose the issue was the back plate wasn't staying in place, had to be a two man job. I was about to give up until finally the 4 screws threaded. Everything else, cable management, front io, hardware installations were a breeze though. Have to admit the RGB makes me feel like the 5 hours spent yesterday were worth it. Thanks for your help btwHeres a great 250gb Crucial MX500 that performs faster than the 250gb Samsung 860s, but the mx500 costs about $10 less. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0764WCXCV/ref=twister_B07PV7KHL3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
