Hi There!

I've recently started to game a lot more and my computer is not doing so well with games. Choppy game play and mid - low settings on most games.

I've about €500 to spend on a few upgrades.

My Spec is below.
Processor - Intel® Core™ 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
Memory – 4GB RAM
Video Card – Nividia GeForce GT 610
OS – W10 64 Bit
BIOS – Phoenix – AwardBIOS v6.00PG

The mother board is an ASUS. Not sure what type.

Can anyone recommend a few upgrades to get me started?

Thanks!

Buy a new graphics card preferably from gtx 10 series. At least 8 gb ram. What is your monitor resolution? I can recommend better if you give me a few more details like, monitor resolution and psu wattage.

Depends on your Power Supply, Resolution and Budget.

But a nice budget build for 1080p Medium/High with the best price/performance you can pretty much get this generation:

Intel Pentium G4560
Any B250 Motherboard with 4 RAM Slots (Allows upgradability for 16GB easy) or a H110 Board to save $
8GB DDR4 RAM (2x4GB)
RX 470 4GB Graphics Card

Prices would depend on where you live but i can put a list together with these parts if you are interested. Note you may need a new Power Supply if it is very old and weak.

*Edit* Here is a part list of the following parts in the U.S, $314 all up and would set you up as i mentioned above if your power supply is up to the task. :) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VytMD8

I was thinking the same, a g4560 and an Rx 470:

Yeah i had the same Motherboard and Pentium in the list i provided but only 8GB RAM and a 4GB RX 470 cause unsure on his budget and they would be enough to get the job done for gaming but if he has enough definitely what you provided, better RX 470 variant and 16GB RAM.

Hey,

I was planning on getting a GTX 1060. But I'm unsure whether to get the 3GB / 6GB. There is about a €70 price difference between them. Just can't figure out of its worth the extra cash.

I was also panning on upgrading to 8GB Ram for now. 2 x 4GB sticks.

My monitor is Resolution: 1,920x1,080 pixels, Pixel-response rate: 5ms.

PSU, I am unsure of. I wont know till I get home from work.

Thanks!

Hey,

My resolution is Resolution: 1,920x1,080 pixels, Pixel-response rate: 5ms.
My PSU, I am unsure of. I need to check it when I get home from work.
My budget is €500 / $540 ( the exchange rate has gone to the dogs! )

Thanks for putting the list together! :)

I wouldn't personally get a 3GB card for Gaming in 2017 as i myself have seen many games push past 3GB VRAM in 1080p when you crank up those Textures and Shadows. Just get a RX 470 if you want a good card and save money. If you have a more open budget than make the jump to a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 480 8GB they will provide enough power for most games on High/Ultra no problem although you might be bottlenecked more by the Pentium unless you upgrade the CPU to something like an i5 7500 or thereabouts.

Hi, don't buy the 3gb version as many games already surpass that. 6gb would be an ideal purchase. Gtx 1060 is a great choice for 1080p monitor. Gtx 1070 if you will upgrade your monitor this year. It will give you letter futureproofing for the upcoming titles. Buy gtx 1060 if you are on tight budget.

Great thanks for the advice on the card. I have been reading loads of reviews and one I saw, the person testing it only seen a 5-10% performance increase on the 6GB.

What would be your preference on the card, GTX 1060 6GB / RX 480 8GB? The GTX is €280/$302 and the RX is €212/$229. It the GTX worth that extra cash?

My PSU is 650W.

The CPU I will have to upgrade in time as I don't think I could afford the i5 at €220 just now. Would the Pentium be ok to use?

Hi CRO5513Y,

I have only got back to doing upgrades for my desktop.

My mother board is below.

- ASUS S775 nForce 780i DDR2 ATX

Should I upgrade this or is this sufficient for the upgrades you listed?

Thanks.
