Hey there,
I'll keep it brief: My friend has the 90H1000FUS (Lenovo Desktop Computer IdeaCentre 720, link to computer: https://www.newegg.com/lenovo-ideacentre-720-18asu-student-home-office/p/N82E16883794857 )
And I would like to upgrade the graphics card. First question: Is this even possible?
Second question: Assuming it is possible, what's a good graphics card upgrade in order to let her run the Oculus Rift?
Third question: I've been informed another potential problem is the power supply (it's not strong enough). Is it good enough or should be upgraded as well (and if it does need upgrading, to what?)
Don't worry about budget for now, but for her sake, if there are multiple good options but different budget points, it would be appreciated to include them as well.
Thank you in advance,
Jeff

Solution
Yes, you will be able to upgrade. It comes with a low-tier AMD PCIe dedicated graphics card which you can physically upgrade.

As for VR, I'd say get anything above a GTX 1070 Ti. You'll have to decide what Power supply to get depending on the card, but obviously you'll need something above 400W. The power suply is not listed on that link so I don't know what it comes with. Just google what power supply is required for the graphics card you plan to get.

I'd also look into upgrading the cpu to a 2600x. It's still low tier but much more powerful than the 1400 it comes with. Just make sure it's compatible with the motherboard. It should be but the page isn't specific as to the exact board model.

Oh and lastly, I'd upgrade the RAM a bit...

Oh and lastly, I'd upgrade the RAM a bit too. You could get away with 8GB but if you find your RAM at max and get stuttering, you might need to add an extra 8GB ram stick. JUST MAKE SURE THE RAM IS THE EXACT SAME MODEL AS THE RAM INSIDE OF IT. DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT RAM STICKS.

Solution
I can see from looking at the picture of the back of the case that your dealing with a lot of slim size parts. Most standard size retail PC parts don't fit something like that. You might be able to upgrade the memory. Any low-profile graphics card is going to be limited by the low power slim size power supply.

Hmm.. thank you for the information. It does seem that if she would want to use VR, she'd need to upgrade the graphics card, cpu and power supply, but due to the size limitation of the case, that would be impossible/unfeasable.
Thank you for the quick replies.

Are you sure you're looking at the right model? It looks like to me to be full size pci-e slots, and on lenovo's website they even had a model with an rx 480 which I have yet to see as low profile.

The case does look quite stout, so any gpu that were to fit would be a short model like zotac mini's or so.

Documentation is pretty sparse and the bios update doesn't state what cpu's are supported, I'd elect to find a better 1st gen ryzen chip like a 1600x or a 1700 that came with higher end option of this pc.

I do not know if this model has proprietary psu connections, it might, so perhaps check and see if the motherboard has a 24pin atx psu plug.
