Hello, I am asking for some advice regarding the parts I will be upgrading for my PC, I will be upgrading the majority of my PC the parts I will be using are...

CPU: Intel i7 8700K
CPU Cooler: Cryorig R1 Universal
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING ATX LGA1151
Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Corsair - HX Platinum 850W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

At the moment I have a few questions.

First, will my Cryorig R1 Universal CPU Cooler be enough to safely cool the i7 8700K, I will not be overclocking the CPU at the moment, but will the cooler be ok when playing games such as Assassin's Creed Origins or hopefully Cyberpunk 2077? (I will be upgrading the cooler to the Asus Rog Ryujin when it becomes available).

Second, I currently have a MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G Twin Frozer graphics card, can I still use this graphics card for the time being will out effecting the system to drastically until I can upgrade it to the Asus GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX graphics card?

Finally, third are there any possible problems that might happen such as incompatibility between the parts that can cause the PC to not work correctly apart for the GTX 970 graphics card bottleneck?

Sorry for the long post, I have not done a major PC upgrade for a few years apart for just little upgrades such as changing the RAM.

Thank you for your time and help.

Solution
1. Yes, the Cryorig R1 will be more than enough for the 8700k. It is one of the best coolers on the market. In fact, if you are not going to overclock, then you should get something cheaper like the Cryorig H7. It will handle the 8700k at stock speeds fine. I would not get the Cryorig R1 and later purchase the Asus ROG cooler as it will not give you any performance improvements.

2. Yes, you can use your 970, but in my opinion you will be top heavy with your system and the 970 will hold everything back. If I were you, I would get a 8600k and Cryorig H7 and pair it with a smaller watt PSU. The EVGA G2 550 watt will be more than enough. Use that money saved to buy a GPU. You could also go with AMD, the 2600 is a very good CPU...

You could also go with AMD, the 2600 is a very good CPU and it comes with a good stock cooler and cheaper motherboards. Which will save you more money to get a better GPU such as the 1080ti.

3. Yes, they are compatible, but you don't need a 850 watt PSU unless you are running a system with dual GPUs, which I would never recommend.

Without knowing your budget, I would go with something like this as the extra money saved can get you into a 1080ti. The GPU is the most important component in a gaming rig.

Solution
ask cryorig about ram clearance on z370 strix, had clearance issue with noctua nh d5, the fan nudges ram.

depend on what you'll be doing, gtx 970 be still good card for gaming at 720p medium graphic detail, unless you plan 4k monitor gaming.

i urge you to check z370 rog strix website and read its tested parts (ram, storage, cpu), as feell suggested there be more combination choices offering more powerful computing at your price range

Thank you for the responses, my budget ranges from about £2000 but over time, about the gtx 970 I will upgrade it as quickly as I can, I am considering two gtx 1080 in sli, but I don’t know at the moment I might just get a gtx 1080ti, thank you for the information about the PSU and I will check on the website about if my Cryorig R1 Universal will be compatible with the motherboard.

Thank you again for the advice it really helps.
