I have this rather outdated system as you can see.

MoBo: Asus M2N
CPU: AMD 64 X2 5600+
GPU: ATI 1600XT (I know, wow)
RAM: 2X1GB
PSU: 380W

The MoBo and CPU had been upgraded (in 2010) and I would like to save money by keeping them and maxing up my GPU (and PSU by consequence) and RAM.
I want the parts to be slightly an overkill, so that I can combine them with new mobo and CPU after 2 years or so. The hardware update will be acompanied by a XP->Win7 update.

I am planning for

  • ■ ASUS GTX650 e-1GD5 ~100$
    ■ Adding 2X1GB RAM for a max of 4GB ~ 70$
    ■ PSU CORSAIR VS550 ~ 65$

Are these parts too good for my cpu or too bad for a future cpu? Would it be worth scraping it all and building a new system?

Confession: My inspiration for getting out of my dusty Linux cave is the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online. So I would like to have a system that can run that shit.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'd scrap it all and build a brand new system.

It's not cost effective to upgrade OLD parts with DDR2 RAM especially> $70 for 2x1gb? You can get 8GB DDR3 for that much.

Where are you buying from? A VS550 for 65$ seems a bit much.
