So I just recently moved, and shipped my PC with UPS. My stupid <mod edit> forgot to take off the heat sink off the CPU, so it detached and bounced around in my case. Only thing that seems to be damaged is the my AMD FX 8350. About 1/3 of the pins are bent, and there is a large blob of thermal paste in some of them. I’m still in the warranty range, but I threw out the box, as I did not have space to move it. Apparently I need the serial code to claim a warranty, which is apparently listed on the box. I’m not sure if the serial code is also listed on the chip. Please help.

Normally, you get some limited damage insurance from UPS.

As to the FX-8350, user damage is not a warranty claim.
If you need to buy a replacement cpu, consider abandoning the FX line.
It is a poor performer with no upgrade potential.
If your needs are for multithreaded apps like editing, look to ryzen which offers many threads reasonably priced.
If your use is for gaming, kaby lake offers the fastest cores.

So apparently the shipping was insured, with damages up to $90, as my dad told me, I’ll try to claim damages. However if this does not work, should I try to repair it, and if so, how?
