Hi all,

I want to get a UPS for the system described in my signature. My needs are :
  • Reasonable run time - 10 to 15 min
  • Protection from all disturbances - surges, spikes, blackout, brownout, etc.
  • Protection for communication ports
  • Software support to turn the system off safely autonomously
I have a few questions :
  1. Any model and maker you'd recommend for me to use?
  2. Does it make sense to buy an online ups for these use cases?
  3. Anything else i should take into account?
Thanks.

Solution
1. I use an APC Backups PRO 1500 for the parts in my sig.
They are similar to yours.
Checking The APC software, I have 15 minutes of run time as I type.
It is running on perhaps half of maximum power draw.
This is minimal load, running a game will greatly increase the gpu power draw.
I have had this for a while, and it does let you carry through power glitches.
The software has options in what to do if battery is running low.
I highly recommend the unit.

2. I have no clue as to what an online UPS is or can do.

3. You will want to add in your monitor and gateway hardware to the load.

What is your budget? 10+ min of holdover, with a gaming PC is not cheap. That is a 1500VA or greater UPS.

I have to say that I'm not an expert on this subject so i dont really know what's reasonable. Up to 400 $ makes sense?
I purchased all my UPS units as used or salvage units on E-Bay. If you can get a used commercial unit and have the seller remove the batteries to save on shipping, then buy brand new batteries, that is the best option. I use only the APC Smart UPS Online models. These are double conversion units which have a constant output. The 1500VA units are the size of a 2U server, but are available with a floor stand.

Solution
My main monitor is a 27"4k dell. My secondary monitor is a 24" fhd dell.
Do i really need to connect my router to the ups?

An online ups provides power from the battery all the time, while a line interactive ups provides power directly from the grid, only switching to battery when a disturbance is detected.
The problem is that I don't know if i need it :)

Would the following model fit my needs:
ARMOR OnLINE 1000VA/900W
?

If you do not connect your router/gateway to the ups, you will lose internet during a power failure.
You may also lose telephone service if it is connected to the gateway.
They take trivial resource anyway.

I see no big benefit from either online/offline if each works properly.

I don't know of any specific model to recommend but can share my own usage for additional perspective. I run my old office computer through a 20-year-old 500VA UPS - crudely made by today's standards - which runs from an external 12V battery. The computer is an old Phenom II x4 with a GTS 450, both power hogs, with a 27-inch monitor. A small car battery (40Ah, ~$60) provides backup for at least half an hour of non-gaming work. The battery lasts for years and I change it when backup time has dropped to a few minutes. I'm on my third battery now.
