I just recently bought this PC and a UPS APC BX650LI-MS (650VA and 325W). I used the UPS immediately after I assembled my rig. 24 hours after use there was a power outage. The UPS only worked for 5 seconds! What seems to be the problem? Do I need a better UPS?

PS - I didn't charge the UPS first for 6 hrs before use. Do I need to? Or was it charging already while I was using my PC?

TIA.

You might need to read the directions with it to see if it needed to charge before attaching equipment to it. Hopefully the directions also indicate use time for varying power consumption. A 600w ups usually only runs a few minutes if the draw is close to 400-500w. If you were in the middle of gaming or something, you'd be pulling more power than if it was just on the desktop or with a browser open. Factor in the power drawn not just by the pc but the monitor also. I'm thinking 325w isn't big enough for your needs, coupled with it possibly not being fully charged is what caused it to shut down so fast.

Were you gaming when the power outage occurred? Your UPS is fine only if the system isn't working at full load when there's a power outage. Presuming your PSU is 90% efficient, your system can't draw more than 325*90/100 = 292W for a short time. What's important is the total load when a power outage occurs. If your monitor or other devices also are connected to the UPS, then it leaves even less power for the PC.

Thanks everyone for the response. I charged it for almost 12 hrs. Tried it just now was just using spotify. It shut down on me again. I think there might be a problem with the UPS.

There's no problem with the UPS; it just isn't powerful enough for that system. Replace it by a 1000VA or more UPS and you won't have issues.
