Hey yall, I recently got a consumer grade APC UPS. I only have my server computer and Xbone hooked up to it. It seems to be putting off a hot plastic like smell, you know like when I try to run windows XP on my dell 3700 with a Pentium II.

I don't think there is any sulfur smell to it and no one on my dormitory floor has complained about it.

Is this a normal thing for it to do, or will my dorm be on fire by the time i get back from class?

Solution
I would have a look at your batteries. I just recently had a UPS (Emerson Liebert) that did something similar. When I opened the battery compartment, the batteries were hot and swollen. In fact one of the batteries melted the plastic in the separate compartment and stuck to it.
