Question Upscale Blu Ray players that upscale to 4k. Real or Fake?

I saw one at Wal-Mart the other day goes for around 98.00 dollars. To me its just a blu ray players with a gimmick. Or am I wrong? If I am wrong, do "real" 4k BD players also upscale Blu Ray discs?

its a gimmick if your TVs can upscale to 4K aswell, but if you wanna watch it on something that cant upscale or it has really bad upscaler, than its not gimmick

oh i see, so a standard 4k tv (mine is a TCL) probably already upscales my discs? If so I may as well buy a 4k player (fully functional) and be done with it so I can play BD UHD discs.
