Need help urgent! I've just bought a Gigabyte GTX 950 XTREME Gaming and realize that my 450W PSU only have a 6 pin plug but the card require 8 pin. Will it still OK to plug in 6 pin PSU to 8 pin card. Thanks.

Solution
While it will technically fit, I cant recommend using it as such.
The card requires the wattage from the PCIe lane plus the 8pin. If its designed for the 8, use 8.

Umm... I don't overclock and I don't game much. Giving the requirement for PSU just 350W and mine is a 450W, so, would it by sufficient wattage? BTW, what is the missing 2 pin does?

Understand. Appreciate and thanks for your help.

I've just upgraded from a HD4890 which used 2x6pin power leads to an XFX 7870 which has 1x6pin & 1x8pin and it WILL NOT display anything with a pin plugged in to the 8pin socket, despite an article I read on here which said that it might because the two missing pins are only ground pins. I realise you have a different card. Just wanted to help out where I can.

Thanks for your advice.
For my case it seem a bit odd, you see, Giagbyte officially "suggested" for 350W PSU but require 8 pin connector? I mean, does any 350W PSU has a 8 pin PCIe connector? I really don't understand.

I write to them:
Question: I just bought the card and realize that it needed 8 pin PCIe connector, which is out of my expectation and I guess many others do. Why not just the COMMON 6 pin? The website "suggested" PSU was 350W which I guess don't have one.

Dear Jayce Lou,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. According to the product specification, the suggested power requirement for this card is 350W (with one 8-pin external power connector). In other to have sufficient power for optimum performance, we suggest you to connect the 8-pin external power connector.
