Urgent, data migration.

I know it's already out there, but for times sake I'll post another. My laptop screen is ripping up, if it should stop working and I can't repair it I would like to have a backup.

My question is:

Is there a method for moving an entire OS hard drive, to a new hard drive, on a new computer?

Moving a drive, with an OS on it, often does not work.
Reinstall is always recommended, often required.
