Hello guys, I still have the socket 775 up to this day as my main system. The motherboard is G41T-AD (V1.0) with the G41 express chipset and ICH7 southbridge. The current CPU is Pentium E5700 dual core, which is under performing with the newer games, so I am planning to make a huge upgrade to the Core 2 Quad Q8400. I have literally searched everywhere the net and cannot find anything, so I am relying on your knowledge to see if the Q8400 supports my motherboard.

I am confused because some websites for my mobo says that it supports up to dual core, and sometimes they say it supports up to quad core. I am just having doubts whether it can run it or not.

According to CPU upgrade, the G41 Express chipset can support quad cores up to Q9650, and a maximum TDP of 130W.

Question: I updated my BIOS is P01-B3 that is from 2011. It should support the Q8400 because it was from 2009, right? It has to, because the BIOS is newer, therefore more hardware support?

Question: However, with all that, I am not sure if the VRM supports quad cores, if it's able to deliver that much power for the quads. Forgive me, I have completely NO CLUE of how a VRM works.

By the way, this motherboard is 6 years old, and literally runs completely fine with absolutely no issues, especially the capacitors, no leaks or damages on them yet! Yes I know, I will be facing issues soon. Yes, I will need a socket newer motherboard. I am aware of all that, so please no suggestions, I just wanna know if the Q8400 will be supported.

And yes, socket 775 is dead. I know that. Don't make me feel so bad. I am a huge fan of older technology, so please don't judge. I am a light to moderate gamer, not those enthusiasts who spend hundreds, even thousands on their PC. I won't expect to play newer generation of games.

Thank you so much for your time on reading this.
