basically i took all the hard drives out of the case when i had to fix my stupid sisters hard drive after i had done that i then put all the drives back in the bays but when i out this one back in i caught it on the lip of the drive bay and it snapped off one the little black chips on the board. i then hoped it would still work so i tried booting it up. it came up the loading operating system and it loaded up a few things and then asked me to enter the rom disk with the os on at which point i knew it wasnt working.
i then had a look round for the pcb board to match my hdd.
i thought i had found the right one so i brought it. i installed it when it arrived and the drive spins up but when it gets to the screen it just flashes the little bar it doesnt even come up with loading operating system.

First of all you can't swap the PCB on these drives without also swapping the EEPROM or NVRAM chip with the adaptives on it. You're always going to have problems with the stability of the drive even if the drive spins up and comes ready.

If you need the data on the drive, you need to get a professional to properly swap the PCB and adaptives for you.

That's assuming that there's nothing else wrong with the drive at this point.

1. Go back two days, perform the same procedure, but this time don't break off that component
or
2. Retrieve the critical data from your backup
or
3. Accept that it is gone

Everyone loses a drive at some point. Accident, failure, droppage, accidental formatting.....
That is the point when you decide to: 1) backup, and 2) decide what is really needed in that backup

A couple hundred dollars at least.

Data recovery labs can't disclose anything about your case unless it involves child pornography or physical harm to another person.
