So i am building my first computer and i was having problems when the psu wouldnt turn on for my test run. So i thought my psu was dead. So i tried that paper clip method and it worked. Then i realized my CPU connector was not plugged in while before my PSU was turned on. So I connected the CPU connector and It still wont work. My power supply is working but it wont turn on while connected to my mobo. Did i short out my mobo? Please help!!!!

no you did not.
check to see if all the necessary cables are plugged in.
is the psu plugged into the wall socket? id it turned on? is the voltage setting on it set properly?
are both the 4/8 pin and 20/24 pin connectors plugged in?
are the front panel connectors in the right place?

Well this is a test run so not every cable is in but i did everything the tutorial said. i don't know of any voltage settings. my mobo has a 24 pin and a 4 pin. i have 1 4 pin cable loose so idk about that

can you explain which "paper clip trick" you used. there is more than 1 of them.
Also the beep test is computer diagnostics 101, it should beep once when you start it up, if it beeps more or less than once you have a problem and if it doesn't stop beeping you have a serious problem.

ok check you motherboard manual for the correct pins on the case header pins (they should be about 10 of them near the bottom (specify mobo for more info) there is 2 pins for power simply use the same paper clip to connect + and - pins together and see if it boots (plugging in PSU fully)
when testing remove as much stuff as possible, just have 1 stick of RAM, CPU (and cooler) and mobo speaker.

If that fails to boot your next best step is to clear the CMOS, look for the battery on your mobo and remove it, unplug your psu before doing so, and wait 2-3 mins. put it back in, plug in your PSU and test again.

(pins look like this http://www.techfuels.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6705&d=1224149893 will vary)
Thats all i can offer atm.

try using a different psu or try using that psu with a different pc
