URGENT. NEED ANSWER QUICK. 2 or 3 way 980TI SLI?

so i need to order this today so that it gets here before i go off to college (I'm ordering a prebuilt gaming pc from ORIGINPC since they have good financing and i don't have the time or experience to build this sucker myself) I'll be running a 28 inch ASUS UHD 4K display and a 23 inch ACER touch screen 1080P monitor. The 23 inch acer will be what i use most of the time for writing papers, surfing the web, coding, and just basic stuff like that, while the 4k will be used for media editing, gaming, ect. my question is should i get 2 or 3 980TI's? i know that they don't scale well after the 2nd card but i don't know if that will change with DX12 or if the scaling is as big of an issue as people make it out to be since the benchmarks I've seen show a decent performance increase.
Also ill be using the i7-5930K

2 way SLI is way better, beyond 2 way is a waste of both money and parts. 3 way anything is just not a viable gaming build so far.

Cant really answer your question as you said 3 don't scale well together and we have yet to see what DX12 will provide for the GPus and games so I don't have a crystal ball but look at it like this you can always add a 3rd card later its not hard to do.

yeah 3 980ti's is a bit of a waste of money. 2 of them will do well at 4k.

If you want to save butloads of money then just build it. Trust me, building computers is WAY easier than you may think, I will put together a build on pcpartpicker for whatever budget.

I would say, since you said you don't have time, buy the prebuilt with 2 cards, though you will lose money, but you can add a card later if DX12 provides better scaling. If you do have time at some point and you need a PC, build one. It's really easy, and a good learning experience. I would describe it as more fragile LEGOs.

well, I've built smaller light use home pc's before but with the time it would take for everything to get ordered and shipped, plus the risk of having the cpu or gpu DOA i just don't have time to risk it, nor the skill and id prefer not to have my first actual build not be the thing ill be depending on for the next 6 years. lol, i aint got mad skills yet.

the PC i need is around a 5-6 thousand dollar price tag, but i only have 800 in my back pocket right now so i need to finance it really cheap and then pay it off immediately with my loan.

well, i don't even have anything like screens, keyboard, mouse, ect. i don't have 4500 dollars (it would be more with a 4k monitor and all the other stuff, and lastly, i won't have time in college, its my freshman year and I'm starting of with CALC 1, Intro to Programing, and a couple of other classes where i need a PC asap for the work and materials i need to do. Trust me, if i could, i would much rather build it myself.

OK, just saying... it would probably take an hour or 2 to build it and would save you thousands. Its worth it IMO but its completely up to you.

the biggest issue is the up front cost. i can get a ASUS ROG G751JY from the College website but i don't know how to order it by using my financial assistance thingy. I'm currently seeing if i can get the credit approval for financing
