so my computer wasn't booting and I used my recovery disk to repair it that came with windows. I followed these steps: http://imgur.com/UdO6JFF

everything was going well, until after step 5. after I click "repair computer" a purple screen comes up with a frozen loading cursor. after a few seconds the loading symbol from the cursor is gone an it is just one blank purple screen with a movable cursor in a low resolution. what can I do?

can you explain a bit more about the cant boot thing? what's the screen prompts you when booting?
"bootmgr is missing" or something else?
also, check your bios if your HDD is detected correctly by the bios, and if you have multiple HDD the right one is chosen as a default HDD boot.

whenever I boot it takes me to "preparing system recovery" loading screen and then goes to a black blank screen in low resolution with a mouse pointer. I cannot do anything. yes my bios settings is all correct and it has the right hard drive where I installed windows.

8.1 and I have done a system restore before to a previous date about 8 months ago. could this be the issue? do I have to install windows again? it won't even let me install windows from the disk it just has a frozen circle cursor (loading)

ok, what you can do right now is to boot advanced mode to gain access to the startup options. from the you hopefully can use the refresh option and see if that solves it.
there are 2 options right now to boot into advanced mode (the one that got "troubleshoot" option.
A, booting into instalation disk. if you have the windows installation disk, set the bios to boot DVD as priority, after it boots press "next" in the language screen, on the next screen ("install now" screen) press "Repair Your Computer". you'll be brought to startup options, go to troubleshoot and choose refresh, refresh wont delete your personal file or modern apps, the only thing that'll be removed is any installed desktop apps

B. create a recovery disk/recovery thumbdrive from another PC that have win 8.1 installed, look for the guide in the internet on how to make a bootable recovery disk/thumbdrive. set the bios to boot into it first(dvd is using disk, usb drive if using thumbdrive). after you boot into the recovery disk/drive it's the same step as using instalation disk, after language selection you'll have the startup option.

i hope these helps, i know it looks like a lot of thing to do and the requirements is quite anoyying but it worth the shot if you have spare time. i dont think i can suggest anymore steps on your problem, but i do wish you good luck.

PS, if you choose reset at troubleshoot, all your personal files will be deleted.

I have tried to make a recovery drive, it just brings me to a black screen with a cursor. and the first option you gave me is what I said in the question. I said after I click "repair your computer" it doesn't give me any options. it brings me to a blank purple screen with my cursor.
